The school is named after the famous Bulgarian writer Emiliyan Stanev. He was born in Veliko Tarnovo on February 28, 1907. From 1922 his family moved to Elena; there he studies in high school. After 1928 he studied painting under Prof. Tseno Todorov for some time. From 1932 to 1944 he worked as a clerk in Sofia Municipality and then was a manager of a hunting farm in Lovech region. In the second half of the forties Emilian Stanev devoted himself entirely to creative work. For some time he leads the Fiction Department of the Literary Front newspaper (1950-1955), and was elected a member of the National Assembly. In 1974 he was elected an academic.
He debuted as writer in 1931, first with short stories. In the thirties he established himself as one of the great hopes of Bulgarian fiction, collaborating with Zlatarog, Art and Critique, Bulgarian Thought, Literary Voice, Rainbow, and others. His first book, "Attractive Glitters", was released in 1938. In this book, two narrations are included - "In Winter" and "Spring Aspirations", they affirm Em. Stanev as an extremely original and unsurpassed animator in Bulgarian literature.
The next collection of animal stories - "Sami" (1940) and "Wolves Nights" (1943) - have established this reputation for Emilian Stanev. He receives recognition not only in Bulgaria but also in neighboring countries and in Europe. In 1948, his famous novel "The Peach Thief" appeared. From that time until the mid-sixties Emilian Stanev worked on his great novel "Ivan Kondarev" and then on "Antichrist". He is the author of many stories, novels, collections for children ("Through the Waters and Forests", "The Greedy Bear", "A Message about a Forest", etc.). Emilian Stanev died in Sofia on 15 March 1979.
